How Climate Change will Impact Investment and Policy Trends–and What You Need to Know, with Bruce Usher

Trend after trend have shaped the way we do business for centuries, with technology taking the lead as the most recent one that transformed the way we do everything. In the next few decades, climate change—already a prolific topic—will become a predominant trend in shaping the way business is conducted. As a result, capital investment and what investors focus on will also change over the next few decades. Business strategists will have to learn to work with these changing dynamics—both with investor relations and policymakers.

In this Roundtable Discussion, Bruce Usher—professor of professional practice and the Faculty Director of the Tamer Center for Social Enterprise at Columbia Business School—will discuss what you will need to be aware of with the inevitable changes, and how to navigate the various issues related to climate change. Bruce currently teaches on the intersection of financial, social, and environmental issues. He was previously an entrepreneur and worked in financial services in New York and Tokyo. Usher is the author of Renewable Energy: A Primer for the Twenty-First Century (Columbia, 2019). In this Roundtable, he’ll discuss topics around climate including:

  • What the rise in ESG and green initiatives means for businesses
  • What investors will be targeting in the future
  • How government policy will affect the way we do business in the future
  • Directing corporate strategy with climate change and new policies in mind
  • How each individual and corporate culture play into the impending change
