How to Motivate and Manage People Who Don’t Report to You

As strategists, we are often challenged to influence others without the official authority or reporting structure to do so. I will be moving into a GM role with a few direct reports, but will need to influence other areas of the organization, particularly sales and marketing, to have impact in the role. What methods have you found to motivate and manage people who don’t directly report to you?
